The former warehouse in Hafencity, where carpets used to be stored, symbolises the openness and intercultural wealth of Hamburg as a port city and ‘gateway to the world’. With his art, Aatifi wants to reach and connect people; his works span an arc between Afghan and German art, between Asian Oriental and Western culture. ‘My abstract visual language is not connected to a specific place or religion’, says the artist. ‘It is universally understandable, so I am looking forward to the exhibition in a cosmopolitan city like Hamburg.’
Tilman Kriesel: ‘It is a great pleasure for us to be able to show Aatifi’s works here in Hamburg’s Schaulager and thus offer a platform for special art enjoyment, cultural exchange and – in the broadest sense – for international understanding.’
