Recognition Award for Aatifi at the Gustav Lübcke Museum
On Sunday, 30 September 2018, the Afghan-German artist Aatifi received an award for his abstract-scriptural art at the Gustav-Lübcke-Museum in Hamm. In front of more than 400 guests, he received a recognition award on the occasion of the overview exhibition Hier und Jetzt – aktuelle Kunst in Westfalen, in which he is represented with large-format paintings.
From the exhibited works of sixty-one artists – in the fields of painting, graphic art, sculpture, object art, installation, photography, and video art – an eleven-member jury selected three winners for the Art Prize of the City of Hamm and two recognition prizes ‘after intensive discussion’. The high quality of the shortlisted artworks made the decision very difficult, explained jury member Torsten Cremer, Chairman of the Sparkasse Hamm Foundation for Art and Cultural Preservation.
In his abstract-scriptural painting, Aatifi creates light-flooded spatiality with dynamics, expression and colour; with his synthesis of spirited calligraphic components and stylistic means of modern Western art, he creates bridges across cultures and countries, according to the jury’s statement.
